Are you in the right place?

GREAT FOR YOU.
GOOD FOR THE PLANET.

CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

Even though we do not consider ourselves saviors of the planet, we actually do care. Below you will find a bit about what we do to make sure our shirts are good for your health, for the people making them and for the environment as well. Unlike brands who focus on their next collections, we have a fundamentally different business model. We don't do fashion. Period. With One Permanent Collection we are never forced to run annual sales. We never over produce. We want to offer the classics in an extremely easy way when our customers need new shirts. It's as simple as that.

The best thing a brand can do for the environment is to make garments that last and to encourage the customer to wear the product as many times as possible. This is exactly our philosophy.

OEKO-TEX 100 - FREE FROM HARMFUL SUBSTANCES

Doesn't really sound too sexy, does it? A German certification standard for harmful chemical substances in textiles. Admitted - it's not. But it is actually incredibly important. A lot of textile products does not live up to basic requirements, making them really harmful both for the environment and body. Think about it. How many hours do you spend in your business shirt each day?

Did we mention that EVERY component of our shirt is Oeko-Tex certified? Fabric, buttons, threads and interlining. Pretty cool, right?

A RESPONSIBLE SUPPLY CHAIN

The STeP certification is another sexy German abbreviation short for Sustainable Textile Production, which ensures that the whole supply chain involved in the production of a BARONS shirt is responsible. This means certified environmentally friendly production processes, optimum health and safety standards and socially acceptable working conditions. It covers everything from cotton fiber production to finishing facilities.

OUR COTTON

Let's be honest. We do not use organic cotton. Why? Because organic ELS-cotton is pretty much impossible to source, at scale in the quality we need to make our fabrics. The main reason why most high-end shirtmakers do not use organic cotton is due to a mix of quality issues and availability. High-end shirtmakers are the primary buyers of the 3% best cotton produced globally, commonly referred to as Extra Long Staple cotton, meaning that the cotton fibres are long.

Longer fibers equals longer lasting shirts. Therefore the total environmental impact of the garment can be divided on more days worn, which is ultimately the key factor. We continue to test fiber alternatives which may, one day, complement cotton without sacrificing on durability, crease resistance or comfort of the fabric.

ELASTANE, LYCRA, SPANDEX, POLYESTER DOES NOT BELONG IN A SHIRT. PERIOD!

Today it seems like you can't open social media without a new add for a "performance" textile brand. When you look closer, it's usually just someone who has added a few percent synthetic fiber (aka. plastic) to their textile, to make the fabric stretchy. There are natural alternatives but adding petroleum based fibers is the cheap, easy and dirty way. As any garment is washed and worn repeatedly, its mass decrease over time. This means that some of the textile is washed into the environment, either from laundry washing or from the rubbing onto various surfaces. In the end this fiber will become micro-plastics.

Globally 400.000 tonnes of elastane is produced annually. In many countries plastic-filled garments will end in a landfill. As a responsible company, we would never dream of adding Elastane, Lycra, Spandex, polyester or any other environmentally unsafe material to our shirts. That's our promise! We prefer plant-based any day because it's simply better. It feels better and it's better for the planet.
